LC-MS/MS based multiomics approaches to characterize prebiotic effects of the inulin on Faecalibacterium prausnitzii |

The gut commensal bacteria Faecalibacteriumprausnitzii is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties, improvingthe host intestinal health. Several studies have reported that the prebioticinulin increases the abundance of F. prausnitzii in the gut, but themechanisms underlying this effect are still unclear. Here, we applied an integrativemultiomics approach to identify the inulin utilization mechanism of F.prausnitzii. Proteomics showed that intracellularfructan hydrolases, β-fructosidase and amylosucrase, degrade inulin taken up byfructan ABC transporters in the presence of inulin as acarbon source. Furthermore, the fructose uptake activity of F. prausnitziiwas enhanced by fructose PTS transporter. Metabolomics indicated that F.prausnitzii can use fructose as an energy source for inulin utilization.Taken together, we provided molecular insights into the metabolism of F.prausnitzii for inulin, which potentially improve host health. |
