MALDI-TOF analysis of functionalized poly(ethylene oxide). |

n-Butyllithium-initiated ring-opening polymerization of ethylene oxide in the presence of t-BuO-K+ was successfully carried out in the mixture of benzene and dimethylsulfoxide at 40℃ for 48 h. This polymerization was found to proceed with a living manner resulting in the production of the living alkali metal polymeric alkoxide. Thus, the chain-end functionalization of the resulting polymer can be achieved quantitatively. The matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) analysis for the resulting polymers was carried out. The spectra inform us that the resulting polymeric alkoxide seems to retain three different types of the growing chain-ends. In this presentation, we will report the result for characterization of the PEO-based materials via MALDI-TOF analysis. |
