For polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell, membranes which are prepared from Poly(arylene ether ketone)(PAEK) are one of the considered membranes because of its economical efficiency, uncomplicated sulfonation process etc. However, it is easily degraded by hydroxyl radicals. Cerium ion (Ce3+) was added into membranes, as an agent stamping out the hydroxyl radicals, but it faced the problem of migration of Ce3+. In this study, aminoethyl-15-crown-5 (CR) was grafted to PAEK to prevent the migration of Ce3+ from the membranes for long-term anti-oxidation stability, as CR forms a coordination complex with Ce3+. The structures of membranes were investigated by using FT-IR, 1H NMR, and SAXS. The anti-oxidation property of the PAEK-CR/Ce3+ were investigated and compared with PAEK without CR. According to Fenton test, the membrane with addition of CR/Ce3+ exhibits an improvement of anti-oxidation as well as an increase in the proton conductivity compared to the membrane containing only Ce3+. |
