Ionic liquids (IL) are gaining much attention in recent years due to their unique properties such as non-volatility, nonflammability and high ionic conductivity. Because of this reason, ILs have been widely studied for electrolytes. To investigate the effect of isomerism of IL on ionic conductivity, four different cations [1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium (alkyl = normal butyl (IL1), 1-methyl propyl (IL2), 2-methyl propyl (IL3) and tertiary butyl (IL4))] were synthesized and combined with the TFSI anion. Structures of cations had confirmed by NMR and UPLC. The interaction between cation and anion, size and shape of ions and conformational flexibility of ions affected the diffusion coefficient of IL according to the isomer structure. As a result, ionic conductivity of IL follows the order IL3 > IL1 > IL2 > IL4. |
