Zn1-xMgxO (x = 0, 0.001, 0.003, 0.005, 0.010 and 0.020) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by co-precipitation method. Synthesized Mg-doped ZnO NPs were characterized by TGA, XRD, HR-SEM with EDX, UV-Vis-DRS and ATR-FT-IR analyses. The XRD patterns revealed the high crystalline nature with hexagonal wurtzite structure. HR-SEM images clearly showed rod like morphology and particles size between 40 and 100 nm. EDX spectra was determined the total amount of Mg content in the ZnO NPs samples. Optical band cap values of Mg doped ZnO NPs measured by UV-Vis-DRS analysis, increased with increase in the dopant content of Mg. ATR-FT-IR spectra confirmed the Zn–O stretching vibration of ZnO NPs. Different concentrations of synthesized NPs were investigated against Gram negative (E. coli) and Gram positive (S. aureus) bacterial strains. Furthermore, 0.010 Mg doped ZnO NPs showed better antibacterial activity and it was incorporated into the polyurethane for active food packaging application. |
