Development of a Heat Integrated Solid Sorbent-based CO2 Capture Process |

Solid sorbent-based CO2 capture processes are actively being developed as a post-combustion CO2 capture technology because of its advantages such as less corrosiveness, less volatility, and low regeneration energy. We developed a heat integrated CO2 capture process using PEI-based solid sorbents. This process uses a circulating fluidized bed for absorber and regenerator to enhance mass transfer between gas and solid phases. It includes a novel solid-solid direct heat exchanger of shell and tube type for reducing sensible energy. Because this heat integrated process is nonconventional, its process design is difficult without a bench or a pilot scale demonstration. We focus on how process simulation and computational techniques were utilized for designing and analyzing bench scale facility. Afterward, based on 20 Nm3/hr scale bench facility operations, energy consumptions and a key parameter affecting process performance are discussed. |
