Application of Wiener-type Input/output Data-based Predictive Control to a Continuous Polymerization Reactor |

An experimental work was carried out for the identification of a continuous methyl methacrylate (MMA) solution polymerization reactor by a Wiener model in a more efficient manner compared to the conventional identification method. The inverse of the static nonlinear function was directly identified using the Tchebychev polynomial. For the linear time invariant (LTI) part, the subspace identification was employed together with the linear input/output data-based prediction model. The respective identification procedures were repeatedly performed to separate the LTI part from the nonlinear part more distinctly. On the basis of the identified model for the polymerization reactor, a Wiener-type input/output data-based predictive controller was designed and applied to the polymer quality control in the continuous MMA polymerization reactor by conducting online digital experiments. The proposed controller performed satisfactorily for the polymer quality control in the multivariate system with input constraints for both set-point tracking and disturbance rejection.
