Micropatterning of multiple cell types by using an ion implantation |

Cell-cell interactions play important roles in cellular behaviors such as a migration, proliferation, and differentiation. Individual cell types can be patterned on various substrates through several techniques. However, a patterning of multiple cell types on a substrate remains a big challenge.In this study, we describe a simple method for a patterning of multiple cell types via ion implantation. To create a micropatterned surface, thin pluronic films spin-coated on polymer substrates were irradiated through a pattern mask with accelerated proton ions. Afterward, the efficacy of this method is demonstrated by culturing two different cell types, fibroblasts and hepatocytes, on the micropatterned substrates. |
