Adsorption characteristics of carbon dioxide on waste plastic based porous activated carbons |

In this work, porous activated carbon (AC) was prepared using waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic. The textural properties of the prepared AC were controlled by changing the ratio of potassium hydroxide (KOH). The surface energetic heterogeneity and the textural parameters of the prepared AC were examined using low temperatrue nitrogen adsorption analysis. Then, carbon dioxide adsorption experiments on the prepared samples were conducted at room temperature ranging from 0 to 110 kPa in a volumetric adsorption apparatus. It was found that the adsorption equilibrium characteristics were closely related to the pore width, pore volume and specific surface area of AC. The expreimental data also fit well with the three well-known adsorption isotherm equations: Langmuir, Freundlich and Sips. |
