CeO2 is one of the representative metal oxides which has great oxygen capacity originated from high number of oxygen defect and unique redox ability between Ce3+ and Ce4+. Due to its prominent property, CeO2 has been used widely in various industrial reaction such as WGS reaction, CO oxidation etc. It is known that geometry, defect, surface area, size of the cerium oxide and reaction condition can affect oxidation property of the cerium oxide. However, these analyses are usually about gaseous reaction and its application to liquid phase organic chemistry are yet limited. Here, catalytic activity of CeO2 for oxidation of the benzyl alcohol were compared according to different morphology, solvent, base and so on. Surprisingly, it was appeared that existence of primary amine greatly improved oxidation performance. These result can provide effects of each factor on oxidation activity and give clues for optimization of the reaction. |
