Luminescence solar concentrators (LSCs) can serve as energy harvestable windows in buildings. Recent progresses in nanotechnology enable unprecedented emergences of novel fluorophores such as quantum dots, perovskites and others, However, advance in fluorophores alone cannot fully bring out LSCs’ best potential. Here, back to basics, we suggest design rules for practical meter-scale LSCs in material-wise and dimension-wise. Once followed, the previously settled theoretical limit is easily surmountable. The measured optical efficiencies are the highest, 45 % at 100 cm2 area and 32 % at 71 of aspect ratio which is not just record high but 3× improved than the previous one. More importantly, here, we introduce the novel LSC structure where photons’ non-decaying path is installed and it shows record high 10 % of solar to electricity power conversion efficiency as well. |
