Indium is widely used as a conductive coating reagent in the displays manufacturing. According to the increased demand of In, the recovery process from the etching wastewater containing In3+ ion is required. Conventional recovery of In from etching wastewater is processed by physico-chemical process such as precipitation and liquid membrane. However none of these methods was accomplished as complete recovery of metal ions or cost-efficient recovery in low concentration of Indium wastewater. In our previous study, successful removal and recovery of Cr6+ from electroplating wastewater was presented using MFC with a bipolar membrane. We proposed metal ion recovery using MFC is applicable in various concentration of wastewater. We applied bipolar membrane MFC for In recovery with simultaneous current production. Significant current generations were presented. Decrease of the concentration of In3+ ion in the wastewater, was accompanied. Most of Indium was precipitated not on electrode but also bottom of MFC reactors. The results show that the MFC can be used for recovery of valuable metal resource with simultaneous electricity production. |
