For gas separation membranes, polymeric materials are required that offer high permeability and good selectivity for a desired separation. These gas separation properties strongly depend on what materials are used. Thus, most research is focusing on synthesis of polymeric materials with new chemical species. Nowadays, polyimides (PI) have been considered one of the candidates due to their easily tunable chemical structures. As a result, many studies have investigated to relate chemical structure of PIs with gas separation properties. However, it is lacking in correlation between physical feature of PI membranes and gas transport behaviors. In this study, we describe the effect of gas permeability and selectivity of the PI membranes, which have same chemical structures with different physical properties. More detail will be discussed in this paper.
