Li-ion battery (LIB) is one of the most promising energy storage devices with a wide range of applications such as electric vehicles, smartphones, and wearable devices. Silicon anodes display a superior specific capacity (theoretical capacity: 3000 mAh g-1) and high potential as anode material for LIB. However, silicon anodes cause a huge volume expansion and instability of the solid electrolyte interface (SEI) during the repetitive charge and discharge process, leading to cycle performance degradation. Polymer binders play a crucial role to suppress the volume expansion of the electrodes and affect the conformation of SEI layers. In this paper,we utilize the crosslinked polymer with a citric acid as the binder for a stable anode in LIB. This result indicates that the bio-based acid can be utilized as an effective binder in the silicon anode for high performance LIBs. |
