Simple and specific detection of multidrug-resistant bacteria is essential for proper patient care and medical cost savings. Here, we demonstrate a highly applicable method for antimicrobial resistance gene detection using the suppressed coffee ring effect. We first conjugated beads with oligo that could hybridize with complementary single stranded DNA generated by isothermal rolling circle amplification. When the target genes are present, the oligo-conjugated bead induce the agglomeration that resist the coffee ring formation. We are able to observe different particle distributions simply by microscope and cell phone camera. We hope that our molecular detection strategy will provide a versatile detection for infection diagnosis, overcoming many limitations of therapy. |
