In this study, we introduce a novel structure of chitosan capsules filled with hydrogen gas and demonstrate their performance as dye removal. Hydrogen gas provides the capsule with a new capability (“self-floating”) that potentially aids in the post-treatment of contaminated sorbents. In addition, silver nanoparticles were coated on the surface of the capsule to increase the sorption capacity and reusability by the photocatalytic process. However, to compensate for the low acid stability, which is a disadvantage of chitosan capsules, the crosslinking agent glutaraldehyde was treated. After the above process, the capsules have good adsorption capacity and are stable in acidic media up to pH 3. They also showed the ability to degrade dyes through a photocatalytic process. |
