We present a protocol on the temperature-tuning self-assembly behaviors of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) into shape-controlled gold crystals. A simple phosphorous-containing reactive amine compound, N,N',N''-tris(2-aminoethyl)phosphoric triamide, functioning both as a reducing agent for gold ions was employed to produce AuNPs under an environmental condition. The reaction temperature has been proved to be of pivotal factor in tuning the self-assembly behaviors for the formation of the gold crystals from nano- to micrometer with different morphologies. Other parameters such as gold ion concentration, stirring condition and reaction time have also been investigated to figure out the self-assembled growth process of AuNPs. The plausible mechanistic pathway of the crystal growth process for both nano- and microcystals has been proposed. The colloidal solutions of different gold crystals show their own characteristic surface Plasmon resonant properties according to the size. |
