Absorption Properties of Metal Ions from Aqueous Solution by Poly (ethylene glycol)-based Hydrogels |

Poly(ethylene glycol)-based hydrogel was developed as a adsorbent by polymerization of diepoxy-terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and diamines for adsorption of metal ions from aqueous solution. The chemical structure of the diepoxy-terminated PEGs were describled by 1H NMR and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The effect of PEG molecular weights on the water swelling behavior and metal ions absorption were studied. The results indicate that with the molecular weight of PEG increased, the swelling behavior and metal ions absorption also increaed. The high molecular weight PEG-based hydrogel has high efficiency for removal of the metal ions from the waste water. |
