Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) has good piezoelectric and mechanical properties, exhibits chemical stability and weathering characteristics, and is usually constructed as thin films for sensing and actuation applications. However, PVDF must be mechanically stretched and electrically poled to obtain the crystalline strucutre necessary for generating piezoelectricity. In this study, PVDF was electrospun into nanofibrous membranes from its solutions in a mixture of N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and acetone. Morphology and microstructure of the obtained PVDF nanoweb was characterized by SEM, DSC and XRD, respectively, and its piezoelectricity was evaluated by electric voltage generated under a given mechanical stimulus. |
