In this study, various silk fibroins (SFs) and silk sericins (SSs) were obtained from 5 different silkworm species and their structural characteristics were examined. The 5 different silk cocoons showed different degumming behaviors resulting in various degumming ratios. They showed similar amino acid composition of SF. Raw and degummed silk cocoons showed almost same XRD diffractograms with similar crystallinity. On the other hand, the crystallinity index obtained from FTIR was varied depending on the silkworm species. The 5 SF solutions from different silkworms displayed Newtonian fluid behavior with similar viscosity. On the other hand, in case of SS solution, the shear thinning was observed regardless of silkworm species. |
