Polyethylene (PE) is widely used inpackaging materials, households goods, and electrical wires because it islight, flexible, chemical-resistant and strong, and has excellent insulationand workability. Since automotive wires are installed in moving vehicles, theymust satisfy the stability against high heat, oxidation, and friction generatedby the engine at the same time. However, PE has a problem in that thermalshrinkage occurs at high temperature, is easily oxidized, and has poor abrasionresistance. In this study, PE blends were developed that simultaneouslysatisfies excellent heat resistance, abrasion resistance and flexibility evenat a high temperature of 150 oC using electron beam crosslinking and polymer blending technology. Todetermine the properties of the crosslinked PE blends, the gel fraction, thermalshrinkage rate, tensile strength, flexural strength, and wear resistance wereconfirmed. |
