Physical properties of PVP Hydrogel containing κC prepared by gamma-irradiation |

Poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) has been used for many biomedical application due to its biocompatibility, hydrophilicity and flexible method of synthesis. κ-carrageenan (κC) is a naturally occurring polymer, they are widely used for gelling, thickening, and stabilizing properties. PVP and κC were dissolved in deionized water and irradiated by gamma-irradiation to make hydrogel. The physical properties were confirmed by gel fraction and swelling ratio, and the compressive strength was confirmed by the universal testing machine. Furthermore, TGA and DSC were analyzed in order to confirm thermal characteristic. ATR-FTIR was analyzed to confirm the chemical structures of PVP hydrogels. It was found that the gel fraction and the compressive strength were increased with increasing the concentration of κC. Therefore, PVP hydrogel could be considered as various applications by adjusting the concentration. |
