Polymer blending techniques can be a supplement to the weakness of polyolefin-based polymers such as effective modification and controlled properties through a mixture of polymers. However, some polymers have been limited for blending due to different properties like hydrophobic or hydrophilic polymers. In this study, to blend, the 5, 10, and 20 wt% styrene of hydrophobic monomer was grafted polyurethane (PU) due to changed hydrophilicity into hydrophobicity of PU using gamma-irradiation at dose of 25 and 75 kGy. In addition, the polypropylene (PP) was blended with styrene-grafted PU using a brabender mixer. The characterization of the composites were analyzed with FE-SEM, EDS, ATR-FTIR, UTM, low temperature resistance, and thermal shrinkage. Based on the results, this study confirmed that more blended with increase in styrene contents and radiation dose between PP and PU. Therefore, It can be possible to develop the high-functional composites using gamma-irradiation. |
