제목 Ultimate Expansion of Controlled Chain Lengths in Rod-Like Polymers Containing Isotropically Bulky Pendants by Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization: Access to Hybrid Photonic Crystals
초록 Isotropically bulky pendants in the polymer are desired to effectively generate the rod-like backbone through steric repulsion. However, the synthesis of rod-like polymers containing such pendants narrowly dispersed in ultrahigh chain lengths has never been accessible by the conventional polymerization methods. To overcome this limitation, here, we report the ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of norbornenyl monomers containing cubic nanocage. The kinetically optimized ROMP was demonstrated to provide the living natures of polymerization in the greatly expanded degree of polymerizations leading to rod-like polymers with ultrahigh chain lengths. The excellent living ROMP allowed the preparation of hybrid rod-like block copolymers (BCPs) containing isotropically bulky pendants and polymeric grafts. The self-assembly of BCPs led to generation of hybrid photonic crystals with highly ordered lamellar nanostructures.
