The unique characteristics of vesicles have enabled encapsulation of hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs, while exhibiting biocompatibility, low toxicity, and nonactivation of the immune system along with targeted delivery of bioactive compounds and controlled release at the site of action. For these biomedical applications, encapsulated drug should be released only at the desired site, and the release rate needs to be controlled. To achieve these goals, photo-polymerizable liposome systems have been applied to directly controlled drug release system. Despite its huge importance, not much has been clearly known regarding the physicochemical characteristics of bilayer membrane organization. In this presentation, both theoretical and experimental consideration will be given on the introduction of polymeric moieties in the lipid bilayer structures in the aspects of membrane organization. |
