N-doped Cdot/PtPd Nanonetwork Hybrid Materials as Highly Efficient Electrocatalysts for Methanol Oxidation Reactions and Formic Acid Oxidation Reactions |

The improvement of the catalytic performance for methanol and formic acid oxidation reactions remains a key issue for the development of a new generation of direct methanol and formic acid fuel cells. This study reports a simple co-reduction approach combined with selective chemical etching for the first synthesis of nitrogen-doped carbon dot/PtPd (N-Cdot/PtPd) nanohybrid materials at room temperature and further for the generation of a unique nanonetwork structure with excellent electrocatalytic properties. The advantage of the proposed method relies on the use of N-Cdots that function as additional active sites to form a stable and uniform interconnection between the N-Cdot/PtPd nanohybrid materials. The as-synthesized material exhibits significant enhancement of the electrocatalytic activity for the electro-oxidation reaction of both methanol and formic acid. Furthermore, the developed materials exhibit excellent stability and hydrophilic dispersibility at room temperature. It is expected that the developed materials can be further utilized for a wide range of electrocatalytic applications including hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution reactions. |
