The Fabrication of PP/EVOH Blend Based Nanocomposite Biaxially Stretched Film Containing Graphene Nanoplatelets |

Packaging materials with high ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) content in the polypropylene (PP) matrix are generally low in recyclability and cause serious environmental pollution, therefore we have faced the challenge of reducing EVOH content and improving recyclability and oxygen barrier performance. In this work, we prepared a PP/EVOH blend containing 5 wt% EVOH, and then additionally prepared a PP/EVOH blend based nanocomposite containing graphene nanoplatelets (GNP). Then, the PP/EVOH/GNP nanocomposites were prepared as a biaxially stretched film through the biaxial stretching process. In the morphology analysis, it was observed that the dispersed phase of EVOH changed from a spherical shape to a layered-like shape as the draw ratio increased, and it was confirmed that the oxygen permeability decreased dramatically. The biaxially stretched PP/EVOH/GNP nanocomposite fabricated in this study has a great feasibility to be applied in various barrier packaging applications. |
