Supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) is environmentally friendly, non-toxic and easy to be obtained in relatively mild critical parameters (Tc=31℃ / Pc=73.8bar). It can be used as an alternative to organic solvents. We herein report the synthesis of PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) and PDMS-co-PHMS (polyhydrogenmethylsiloxane) in scCO2 as a solvent. Mesoporous silica (MCM-41) functionalized with sulfonic acid on the silica surface was used as an acid catalyst to avoid using an organic solvent. The PDMS and the PDMS-co-PHMS were synthesized under various reaction conditions such as pressure, temperature, and monomer concentrations. The structures of the PDMS and the PDMS-co-PHMS was characterized by 1H-NMR and their molecular weights and polydispersities were investigated by gel permeation chromatography. |
