Synthesis and Properties of Modified Amylose Containing Alkyl Spacer at Regular Intervals in the Main Chain |

Amylose is a linear polysaccharide composed of -(1→4)-linked glucose units, which forms a one-handed helical structure possessing chiral inner cavity. The unique chiral recognition capability of the helical structure is useful for optical resolutions of racemic compounds. It is also known that amylose behaves as a host polymer for various compounds such as iodine, organic molecules, and polymers to afford inclusion complexes, which enables an intermolecular chirality transfer to the guest molecules. For both the evaluation of the structural properties of amylose and the creation of new functions based on the tuning of amylose properties, we have investigated the structural modification of amylose main chain. Herein, we report the synthesis and properties of modified amylose containing alkyl spacer at regular intervals in the main chain. |
