Heavy metal additives such as Mo-DTC and Zn-DTP are widely used in lubricating oils, as both antiwear agent and antioxidant. However, increasing concern over the environmental pollution by heavy metal in Zn-DTP and Mo-DTC has lead to research to provide new additives to partially replace the Zn-DTP and Mo-DTC without reducing the performance of formulated oils. To solve the above mentioned problem, environmentally friendly ashless anti-wear additives with EP properties were synthesized, which consist of mercaptobenzothiazole and thiocarbamate for EP properties. 1,3-dimercaptobenzothiazolyl propan-2-one was synthesized by nucleophilic substitution of dichloroacetone and mercaptobenzothiazole and reduced to 1,3-dimercaptobenzothiazolyl propan-2-ol by using NaBH4. To introduce amine group in above secondary alcohol, 3-bromopropylphthalimide was reacted and hydrolyzed. The final dithiocarbamates was syntehsized by reaction of amine and CS2 under low temperature and characterized by using spectroscopic analysis. The tribological behaviors of these synthetic dithiocarbamates were evaluated by 4-ball machine and SRV tester. |
