Biodegradable hydrogels are promising biomaterials as controlled release system for skin tissue regeneration. Controlled delivery system is an important aspect of tissue engineering for reasons that concern the modulation of the immune and inflammatory response. In this study, we synthesized fibrinogen conjugated keratin to reinforce insufficient mechanical properties and enhance the effect of biological activities. Keratin-fibrinogen (KER-FBG) was synthesized by EDC/NHS coupling reaction, and prepared tunable hydrogel through polymerization with thrombin. The structure and morphology of the KER-FBG hydrogels were confirmed.Furthermore, mechanical properties, swelling ratio, degradation, and release behavior, biocompatibility were investigated. Finally, we suggest that the developed KER-FBG hydrogels presented a promising biological performance as controlled release system and can be applied in the field of skin tissue regeneration. |
