Tin sesquisulfide (Sn2S3) thin films for PV applications |

Tin-based binary sulfides (Sn-S) have drawn much attention because they are abundant, inexpensive, non-toxic, have high catalytic activity, material diversity, structural multiformity, and excellent electrical conductivity. Tin sesquisulfide (Sn2S3) is the one of the stable and stoichiometric compounds in the Sn-S binary system and exhibits promising characteristics for a variety of applications. The chemical solution process (CSP) involves a relatively low capital expense and is technically undemanding on the experimental side. However, the deposition of Sn2S3 thin films using CSP is relatively new and their process–property relationships are not well understood compared to those of SnS, CdS, and ZnS thin films. In this work, we successfully deposited the Sn2S3 thin films using CSP by controlling solution pH, and comprehensively studied the effect of pH on the growth rate, phase formation in addition to the physical properties of Sn2S3 thin films for the first time. We directly address the findings in the framework of its prospects as a thin film solar cell absorber. |
