Sustainable and controlled drug delivery systems are highly desirable technologies for promoting drug efficacy for disease treatment. Chitosan is a polysaccharide with high positive charges with excellent biocompatibility and has been widely used for the preparation of microspheres for drug carriers. In this study, gelatin/chitosan microspheres were fabricated. Glutaraldehyde has been widely used as crosslinking agent in chitosan microsphere preparation but, reportedly, can cause cytotoxic effects. In this study, gelatin/chitosan microspheres were prepared by using environmentally friendly tripolyphosphoric acid instead and to examine its feasibility. The morphology, chemical state, drug incorporation efficiency, and controlled drug release pattern of the prepared microsphere were analyzed by SEM, FTIR, high performance liquid chromatography, UV-vis Analysis. Our result displays that the gelatin/chitosan microsphere can be further utilized in drug delivery system. |
