Delayed-catalyst system for polyurethane synthesis using catalyst-encapsulated microcapsule prepared using inorganic-organic hybrids |
초록 |
Most two component polyurethanes tend to have short pot lives due to increased chain reactions which is one of the major problems faced by polymer engineer when designing products which required longer time for forming into usable products. In this project the pot life of a two component polyurethane was investigated by a delayed catalyst system that was successfully formulated by encapsulating a polymeric reagent and catalyst in hybrid polymer capsule that are dispersed in the polyurethane base matrix. The content of the capsule slowly diffuse into the base matrix allowing the catalyst release time to be controlled (based on the thickness of the capsule wall).The catalyst-encapsulated microcapsule was found to increase the gelation time of the polyurethane from 3 hours to well above 7 hours. The microcapsule size and catalyst release rate were investigated. |
