The titania-coated silica nanomaterials with three different shapes (nanosphere, nanorod, nanotube) were fabricated to examine the influence of particle geometry on ER fluid in nanometer-size region. The effect of particle geometry on ER property was studied by varying the geometric aspect ratio of dispersing materials in terms of flow resistance and mechanical rigidity, and the dielectric properties of the titania-coated silica nanomaterials based ER fluids were also analyzed on the basis of the dielectric loss model. In addition, the ER property of titania-coated silica nanomaterials based ER fluids were investigated under various experimental conditions, such as shear rate, particle volume fraction, and electric field strength. |
