Synthesis of pH-sensitive block copolymer : Poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(sulfadimethoxinyl methacrylamide) |

Chain-end functionalized polymers have received a great deal of attention in the polymer chemistry field. Among them, ω-halogenated polymer can be used for the synthesis of reversible addition fragmentation transfer (RAFT) agent. We have synthesized PEO-based RAFT agent through “living” poly(ethylene oxide) via anionic polymerization and its chain-end functionalization. The polymeric alkoxide was terminated with 2-bromopropionyl bromide leading to the generation of ω-brominated PEO. The ω-brominated polymer can be converted to the RAFT agent through the reaction with potassium ethyl xanthogenate. A methacrylate type of sulfadimethoxine monomer was synthesized by the reaction of methacryloyl chloride with sulfadimethoxine in water/acetone (1 : 1). The PEO-based RAFT agent was used to polymerize the sulfonamide monomer using AIBN in DMF. The resulting block copolymer showed the pH-sensitive property. In this presentation, we will report the preliminary results. |
