Selective Removal of Cs+ in Acidic High-Level Liquid Waste Using Epoxy Resins |

Long-term storage of radioactive waste is facilitated when heat-generating components such as Cs+ are selectively sequestered as a pre-concentration step. In this study, new types of epoxy resins were prepared and tested for Cs+ capture in highly acidic (3M HNO3) simulated high-level liquid waste (HLLW). The most Cs+-selective among the resins was prepared from a bis-epoxide containing a benzene moiety with oxygen and sulfur donor atoms in ortho position and cured with diaminopropane (resin BE2-Ep).
