HNIW or CL-20 (2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtzitane) is one of the insensitive high energy density materials (HEDMs) and it has been developed in recent years for the modern munitions and weapons. They have four polymorphs which are α, β, Ɛ, γ-form at ambient conditions such as pressure and temperature. This study monitored the relation between the supersaturation and kinetic factors such as the nucleation rate and growth rate of each crystal. The Raman spectroscopy was used to monitor the concentration of the solute and the crystals in solution and slurry. The Raman shows the supersaturation. Focused Beam Reflectance Measurement (FBRM) showed the counts and size of crystals in real time and the data of the FBRM can measure the nucleation rate and growth rate. The temperature is maintained as 293K by PID. We controlled the addition conditions and observed the changes of the supersaturation. |
