제목 | Debundling and dissolution of single walled carbon nanotubes through noncovalent sidewall functionalization with pyrene derivatives |
초록 | Considerable attention for the homogeneous dispersion of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) into polymer matrix exploiting the extraordinary properties of carbon nanotube has focused on the preparation of soluble carbon nanotubes. One approach for improving SWNTs dispersion is to use covalent or noncovalent side-wall functionalization.1-3 In this study, SWNTs were functionlized with pyrene derivatives with various alkyl chain length because the pyrenyl group is known to interact strongly with the sidewalls of SWNTs via π-stacking,4 while the long alkyl chain of the pyrene species can interact with the surrounding solvent sufficiently to overcome the large intertube van der Waals attraction energy. The interaction between the surface of SWNTs and pyrene moiety in DMF was proved by 1H-NMR and raman scattering. AFM images presented a dramatic debundling of SWNTs facilitated by adsorption of pyrene derivatives. Fig. 1. Evidence of interaction between SWNTs surface and pyrene moeity. Fig. 2.
