Sodium azide-initiated “living” polymerization of ethylene oxide and Synthesis of α-azido-ω-aminooxy poly(ethylene oxide) |
초록 |
Poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO) is widely used in the pharmaceutical and biomedical area due to their physical and biological properties, including solubility in water and organic solvents, and less toxicity. PEOs can be modified through its chain-end functionalization. Alkali metal alkoxides have been used as excellent anionic initiator to polymerize ethylene oxide(EO) leading to living polymerization. In this study, sodium azide as an anionic initiator was used for polymerization of EO. The resulting polymeric alkoxide was terminated with several electrophiles to obtain acid cleavable PEOs. Among them, α-azido-ω-aminooxy poly(ethylene oxide) as a precursor of drug carrier was successfully synthesized. The functionalization yield was quantitative (over 98 mol%) |
