Recently, smectic liquid crystalline materials based on defect structures have been identified as a new class of a self-assembling lithographic template. The development of simple and cost effective method for controlling the arrangement and orientation of self-assembling structures on large-area flat surface is one of important goals in soft material researches. In this study, we introduce a chemical stamping method based on the non-covalent micro-contact printing for achieving various arrangements of focal conic domains (FCDs) with large-area. The metal salts patterns on surface induce vertical alignment of liquid crystals, and help to separate and arrange FCDs. We successfully obtained various arrangements of FCD with square, rhombic and hexagonal lattice and controlled the orientations of FCDs. Also, we could generate square array of FCDs on various substrates by applying the chemical stamping method. |
