The paraffin waxes are known as the most attracting PCMs due to their cost, chemical inertness, and relatively higher latent heat, which show no super-cooling and phase separation in comparison with inorganic salt hydrates. Eicosane that is a linear saturated hydrocarbon having 20 carbons in a molecule, is selected as core material due to its melting point adjusting to the thermal energy management in usual house-life. The microencapsulation of eicosane was carried out by emulsion and suspension copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with comonomers such as methacrylic acid (MA), ethyl methacrylate (EMA), and butyl methacrylate (BMA). The morphologies, particle size, and thermal properties of microcapsules was studied through analyzing various factors such as polymerization method, comonomers and their portions in shell, cross-linking agents, and the mass ratio of eicosane to monomers. |
