제목 | Process Systems Engineering in Biopharmaceuticals: Modeling Study of Freeze-Drying |
초록 | Rapid mass production and transportation of biopharmaceuticals are highly recommended, especially in response to the pandemic situation these days. Freeze-drying enables effective storage and transport that prevents heat-sensitive products from getting damaged. However, a lengthy drying time is a bottleneck of the freeze-drying process that microwave application for biopharmaceuticals has been experimentally tried to overcome its limitation. In this study, an early model of microwave applied freeze-drying is developed where no simple mechanistic model existed before. As a result, the drying time is reduced by over 70% in the model, displaying reasonable temperature and drying time predictions.
