제목 High-performance flowless Zn-Br batteries : Using additive coated graphite felt
초록 The zinc-bromine redox flow battery is one of the most promising batteries as an energy storage device for storing renewable energy. Aiming at a cost-effective and high volumetric energy density ESS, researchers have proposed flowless zinc-bromine batteries (FL-ZBBs). However, there are still several problems with FL-ZBBs, including Zn dendrite, Br crossover, HER and OER. In this dissertation, I propose the one of solutions to overcome that issues and realize the high volumetric energy density of FL-ZBBs. Using additive which has N+ captures bromine and polybromide then suppresses the Br crossover. To maximize the ability of this additive, this additive is coated on graphite felt used as cathode so that a reversible bromine oxidation/reduction reaction could occur. Furthermore, additive coated carbon felt increases the oxidation stability and suppresses O2 evolution. In addition, Zn dendrite can also be suppressed, enabling reversible Zn electrodeposition/ detachment. Based on this effect, when carbon felt coated with additive is introduced into FL-ZBB, it can be possible to design the cell with having greatly improved cycle performance and the highest volumetric energy density.
