Performance of petroleum impregnation pitch of controlled molecular weight distribution |

Artificial graphite also called synthetic graphite, is recognized as a useful material in many industries, because of its outstanding properties such as high electrical conductivity and stability, the stability against thermal shock as well as chemical corrosion. Pitch impregnation plays a key role in production of premium-grade graphite artifacts. The process enhances performances of the graphite artifact by optimizing its physical structure like channels and pores created during the carbonization and graphitization. In the current study, we have synthesized the impregnation pitch (IP) from pyrolysis fuel oil (PFO), a representative petroleum residue, by the stepwise synthesis followed by controlling of the molecular weight distribution. Prior to the impregnation experiments, rheological behavior of the IP were analyzed with the temperature, and the optimum process condition was determined according to the analysis. |
