Photo-Mechanical Responsive Liquid Crystal Elastomer with Azobenzene Side Groups |

Photo-responsive molecules change their properties as a response to light. Azobenzene group is one kind of photo-switchable molecules due to the trans-to-cis photoisomerization which is induced by ultra-violet (UV) light. Here we report a simple strategy to graft the azobenzene group to PU via azide-alkyne click reaction. Different contents of azobenzene group have been used to demonstrate the photoswitching. The orientation showed significant effects in light-driven property, and the photoisomerization of azobenzene also influence the thermal property of azo-PU. |
