Polyurethane dispersion (PUD), which uses water instead of organic solvents, has been developed and applied in various ways due to environmental pollution. We studied the effect of polyol types on PUD. Three types of polyols (polyether diol, polyester diol, and polycarbonate diol) were used to synthesize waterborne polyurethanes, and their mechanical properties were compared with. Polyurethane were synthesized by reacting polyols having -OH groups with isophorone diisocyanate having -NCO groups at both ends, and then a catalyst and dimethylol propionic acid were added for the continuous chain extending reaction. Finally, PUDs were prepared via an aqueous dispersion process. In order to confirm the effect of the difference in the polyol structure on the mechanical properties of polyurethane were measured using universal testing machine. The viscosity and particle size of the PUDs were also measured using a brookfield viscometer and particle size analyzer, respectively. |
