Mitochondrion is known as a power-house of human body, where ATP generation is carried out and biological energy is produced. Among numerous phospholipids, cardiolipin (CL) is very special due to four hydrocarbon tails; it can be only found in mitochondria and bacteria. The presence of CL plays a key role in maintaining the stability and functionality of mitochondria. For better understanding the interaction between CL and other phospholipids, the mixed monolayers with phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) have been studied by Langmuir. The Pi-A isotherm leads to another results of stability and compressibility of mixtures. Besides, the molecular structures have been studied by X-ray reflectivity and microscopies, from which undulating structure could be found. |
