Poly(ether-block-amide) (PEBA) is segmented block copolymer type thermoplastic elastomer consisting of semicrystalline polyamide as hard segment and flexible polyether as soft segment. The semicrystalline polyamide segment provides physical crosslinks, and, polyether having a glass transition temperature well below room temperature acts as an entropic spring. Because of its good balance of physical and mechanical properties, PEBA is widely used in diverse applications, such as seals, automotive clip gaskets, air bag covers, hoses, and many others in the automotive, transportation, biomedical devices. In this study, performance enhancement of the PEBA was attempted by the addition of polyamide 2.2 as a polymeric nucleating agent. Microstructure, non-isothermal melt crystallization behavior and thermo-mechanical properties of the PEBA/PA 2,2 blends were investigated by transmission TEM, WAXD, DSC, DMA and tensile testing, respectively. |
