The localization of functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes, and the electrical resistivity of CNT filled blend systems of polycarbonate and poly(styrene-co-acrylonitrile) was investigated. We intended to observe the effect of the electrical conductivity and other rheological properties by changing the content of carbon nanotubes and sonication time. PC, SAN and CNT were prepared by melt mixing from a conductive PC/SAN composite filled with carbon nanotubes. High electrical conductivity of carbon nanotubes has roused interest in the area of electrical appliances and communication related applications. The critical weight or volume percentage of fillers required for building up a continuous electrically conductive network throughout the polymer matrix actually depends on the aggregation, structure, porosity, average size and size distribution of the conductive particles and on the polymer rheology and processing conditions as well. |
